Courting Greatness Through Tennis at Temple

Tennis at Temple serves as a catalyst for community development, competition and well-being. From varsity sports to introductory lessons and engagement with our community, tennis at Temple enriches the campus experience and helps foster deeper connections with North Philadelphia.

With the construction of the new 100,000+ square-foot Caroline Kimmel Pavilion for Arts and Communication underway on the site of the former tennis courts, Temple seized the opportunity to build brand-new on-campus courts with spectator seating. The new courts officially opened with a grand opening ceremony on March 28, 2025, that kicked off the first home match for our Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams.

Division I
Varsity Tennis

Our new 52,000 square foot, roughly $2.5M tennis complex will provide our student-athletes with top-notch facilities to develop their talents while preparing to compete at a high level within the American Athletic Conference. The new facility will include the technology required to allow fans across the country and other parts of the world to stream matches shown on ESPN+ TV. By investing in our tennis infrastructure, we reaffirm our commitment to athletic excellence and provide our student-athletes with resources to help them thrive.

Accessible Introduction
to Tennis

Tennis is a sport for all ages and skill levels. Temple students, faculty, staff and the community enjoy introductory lessons and recreational opportunities on our courts. This new complex will provide additional court surfaces, new lighting and more gathering spaces to discover and continue to experience the joys of tennis on campus.

Community Connection
and Engagement

Tennis courts serve as hubs for social interaction and community engagement. They provide a space for people to come together, connect and build meaningful relationships. By building this complex, we create a focal point for community activities and events, strengthening ties between Temple University and the surrounding neighborhoods.

The court construction is complete, however, there are still opportunities to support and invest in the holistic well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and community members. Together, we will create a vibrant sporting culture and foster deeper connections within our community.

  • The courts allow improved playing surfaces for student-athletes, students, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • The alignment of the courts makes it easier for coaches and fans to watch matches. Lighting allows for flexible practice times and continued support of academic tennis classes and community rentals.
  • The location across 15th St. has bleachers for fans and a large entry and plaza, increasing support for our student-athletes and creating a positive community impact.
